SC seeks report in 3 months on 'fake encounters' in Gujarat
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today asked the monitoring authority headed by its former judge to look into the killings in alleged fake encounters between 2002 to 2006 in Gujarat and file its report within three months. Gujarat Government had appointed former apex court judge M S Shah in April last year to monitor the investigation into the killings in the alleged fake encounters within the period. "Having regard to the fact that a monitoring authority has been put in place and a former judge of this court is its chairman, we desire the chairman to look into all instances of the alleged fake encounters mentioned in the two writ petitions. "We want the investigation to be thorough so that truth in each case is revealed," a bench comprising justices Aftab Alam and C K Prasad said while hearing the petitions relating to alleged fake encounters in Gujarat between 2002 to 2006 which purportedly showed a pattern that people from the minority community were targeted as terrorists.

Mumbai: Hours after the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) in Maharashtra announced that it had arrested three men who helped execute a trio of blasts in Mumbai in July, the central government has said they've got the wrong men. The excruciating embarrassment is exacerbated by the fact that one of the men arrested is actually an informer for the Intelligence Bureau, according to sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs. The sources, who do not want to be identified, say the announcements made in Mumbai are "premature and misleading." On July 13 last year, 27 people were killed and nearly 100 injured when bombs exploded in quick succession in Zaveri Bazaar, near Opera House and close to the Dadar area in the city centre. The alleged mastermind is Indian Mujahideen founder Yasin Bhatkal who remains ...

Adjourning the hearing till March 27, a bench of justices HL Dattu and CK Prasad observed, “What is famous about it? It was an incident, which happened and parties are before us. It is not famous or infamous’’. ...
Advani calls Jayalalithaa a 'natural ally'
CHENNAI: Barely a month after AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa fancied a national role for her party in Lok Sabha polls due in 2014, BJP leader LK Advani today described her as a "natural ally," fuelling speculation that both parties could come together ahead of the polls. "We see in Jayalalithaa a natural ally," Advani said at the 42nd anniversary celebrations of Tamil weekly 'Thuglaq,' edited by noted political commentator Cho S Ramaswamy. ...
